Harold E. Galyen, 93

Harold E. Galyen, 93, Seymour passed away Nov. 24 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour

Born July 5, 1916 in Jennings County to Edgar and Elizabeth (Crank) Galyen, he was a former resident of Sardinia for the past 44 years. He had been a lifelong resident of Northern Jennings and Southern Decatur County.

He graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1934 and was a lifelong farmer and had retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1979 after 15 years of service.

He was a member of Senior Center at North Vernon, Diesel Workers Union at Columbus and Pleasant View United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing euchre, dancing, camping, Senior Center activities, gardening and he was oral historian.

He married Martha J. Bowyer in Vernon, Indiana on Feb. 28, 1940. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice (Denny) Morrow, Seymour; a son, Ronald (Diana) Galyen, Brookville; a sister, Arvilla (Bob) Bozell, Columbus; a brother, Orville (Francis) Galyen, Hartsville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Galyen, Greensburg; five grandchildren, Doug (Margaret) Morrow, Seymour, Tim Morrow, Lexington, Ky., Denise (Randy) Brewer, Seymour, Matthew (Kristina) Galyen, Ona, W. Va., and Marty (Laura) Galyen, Brookville; and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha J. Galyen; one brother, Otto Galyen; one great grandson, Chance David Galyen

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral services willbegin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and the Westport Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
