Carol Sue White Smith, 67


Carol Sue White Smith, 67 of Burkesville, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at her residence.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1941 in New Castle, Ind. to parents Kirby K. and Nellie Mae (Groce) Hammond. She was raised in the Westport area and had been a Kentucky resident since 1999. She retired in 2001 from BCA at Greensburg after 28 years of service.

She was a member of the Brandon Grove Baptist Church at Burkesville, and her hobbies included sewing, decorating cakes, spending time with her grandchildren and serving her Lord.

Her first marriage was to Carl Edward White on Nov. 3, 1973 in North Vernon. He preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1997. Her second marriage was to Ricky Stevens Smith on Feb. 14, 2002 in Jamestown, Ky.

Survivors include: husband Ricky Stevens Smith of Burkesville; daughter of Laurie Ann Brown of Greensburg; sons Michael L. (Janie) Brown of Kirby, Texas and Bryan K. (Paula) Brown of Columbus, Ind.; step-children Helen F. Evans of Butler, Ind., Darlene Sue Price of Waterloo, Ind., Brenda (Time) Brager of Amelia, Ohio, Sandy Richardson of Morrow, Ohio, Ronald (Linda) Lay of McKee, Ky., Jeff (Kathy) Lay of Lebanon, Ohio; and Brandon Fee of Corinth, Ky.; four sisters Ruth (Rob) Linger of Greensburg, Bonnie (James) Smith of Westport, Mary (Mike) Wright of Westport and Pam (Dean) Owens of Westport; brothers Carl (Mae) Hammond of Clarksburg and Bill (Virginia) Hammond of North Vernon; and 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: first husband Carl Edward White; sisters Bernice Davis, and twins Dorothy and Delores Hammond in infancy; one brother Donald Hammond; one grandson Scott Bubba Meece.

The visitation is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 at the Bass and Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. The funeral will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lake Cumberland through the funeral home.
