Alta Marie Ross, 94

Greensburg — Alta Marie Ross, 94, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 at her residence.

She was born in Noble Township in Shelby County April 27, 1918, the daughter of Dolph and Winnie Lorene (Stansifer) Ross.

Marie was a 1936 graduate of Waldron High School. She worked at KCL Corp., G.C. Murphy Co. Store, Lomark Drug Store, Rite Aid and Waldron Nursing Home. She also worked as a child care provider.

Marie loved sewing and cooking, caring for others, and writing in her daily journal, which she had kept since the age of 18.

Marie is survived by her sister, Betty Ross of Shelbyville, niece Wilma Cox of Shelbyville, nephew Tom Stansifer of Michigan, three great-nephews, two great-nieces, four great-great nephews, and four great-great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Goldie Stansifer, and brothers Edward Ross and Gene Ross, and a nephew, Jim Ross.

Funeral services begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, Shelbyville, Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating.

A time of visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the funeral home.

Burial follows services in Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Shelby Senior Services or the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
