Wanetta Mae Kirk, 74, formerly of Rush County, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7 in Indianapolis.
Wanetta Mae Johnson was born Jan. 10, 1936 in Franklin County to Carl and Cleona (Durham) Johnson, both deceased. She spent most of her life in Rush County, living the last 1 1/2 years with her daughter in Greensburg. She was a 1954 graduate of New Salem High School.
Wanetta married Leslie Kirk on Aug. 31,1956 and he preceded her in death on July 22, 1983.
She was a member of the New Heights Church of Christ in Connersville and for many years was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rushville. She was a house parent at the Soldier's and SailorÕs home near Knightstown from 1988 until 1998 and from there went to work at the Marsh Deli.
She leaves behind sons, Thomas Lee (Renate) Kirk of New Bloomfield, Mo, Theodore (Kim) Wayne Kirk of Muncie; daughters, Emma (Donnie) Jean Rudd of Sugarland, Texas, Ella Wanetta (Jim) Hightower of Garrettsville, Ohio, Rita Ann Newlin of Greensburg, Connie Sue Woolever of London, Ohio, Shirley Mae (Fred) Marsh of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister, Bonnie Risselman & husband Charles Caudill of Connersville; 24 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wanetta was preceded in death by two granddaughters; one daughter; one brother and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, with Brian Powell officiating.
Friends are welcome to call at the mortuary from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.
