Charles Frederick Jester, 74

Charles Frederick Jester, 74 of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7.

He was born in Madison to parents John Wilbur and Ann Catherine (Unwiller) Jester. He is survived by: wife Virginia Lee Jester; daughter Tammy Jo Jester of Madison; sons Charles Wayne Jester of Madison, Denny Jester of Madison, Johnny “Turtle” (Kelli) Jester of Madison, and Randy (Mary) Jester of Greensburg; 11 grandchildren Charles, Christy, Chasity, John Wilburn, Dana, Justin, Matt, Clint, Kati, Aaron and Nikki; 17 great-grandchildren Trenton, Hailee, Brandon, McKayli, McKenli, McKira, Trevor, Logan, Maggie, Lilly, Libby, Addyson, Aiden, Kori, Taylor, Caleb and Kaitlin; brother Harold Jester of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Robert Jester, sister Jeanette Scott and an infant brother.

Charles entered this life on Aug. 29, 1935 in Madison. He was raised in Switzerland County where he attended school and had resided there all of his life. He was united in marriage on March 13, 1954 in Madison to Virginia Lee Denny and to this union arrived a daughter and four sons to bless their home. Charlie was a dairy and tobacco farmer and had farmed all of his life. He was a school bus driver for the Switzerland County School Corporation, retiring after 18 years of service in June of 2009. He was a former delivery driver for 14 years for the Barber Grocery in Madison. He was a former truck driver for Spann Trucking in Madison and worked construction for Calvet Construction in Corydon. Charlie attended the Switzerland Baptist Church and the Long Run Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his love of horses, horse pulls and car races.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay, Ind. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Howard Wade. Interment will precede the funeral at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles to the American Cancer Society, and contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
