John F. Metz, 88

John F. Metz, 88, Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 9 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

Born Dec. 20, 1921 in Batesville, Indiana, he was the son of Frank A. and Mary A. (Ording) Metz.

John was a supervisor for Batesville Casket Co. where he worked for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, a lifetime member of the VFW in Batesville, and the Knights of St. John in Batesville.

He served in the Army Air Force in the South Pacific in WW II.

He was married to Evelyn M. Galle on September 28, 1946 and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Darrell (Nancy) Metz, Batesville, Gary (Becky) Metz, Greensburg; one daughter, Cheryl (Mansure Falatoonzadeh) Metz, Arcadia, Ca.; five grandchildren, Chris and Kevin Metz, Roya, Jasmine and Sarah Falatoonzadeh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Fred, Alfred and Harold Metz; one sister, Rita Ann Smith.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary service will be held at 3:30 prior to visitation at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating.

Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society.
