William Russell Hungate, 76

Greensburg — William Russell Hungate, 76, of St. Paul, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at his residence.

He was born Sept. 12, 1936 in Noble Township, the son of Everett Hungate and Thelma Roberts Hungate.

He married Helen “Charlene” Hungate Sept. 25, 1959 and she preceded him in death July 2, 2001.

William loved fishing and spending time with his family. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Indiana State Police for 41 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a 1954 graduate of Waldron High School and was a member of the St. Paul Kiwanis Club and the Waldron Masonic Lodge number 217. William also served in the National Guard.

He is survived by special friend Anne Payne, of Waldron; three sons: William G. (Kay) Hungate of Lake Santee, James R. (Michelle) Hungate of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Adam (Ashley) Hungate of St. Paul; a daughter, Robin (John) Vieke of Kannapolis, N.C.; a brother, John Everett Hungate of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren: Joel (Jessica) Hungate, Nathan Hungate, Abby Stewart, Nick Stewart, Matt Vieke, Allison Vieke and Eddie and Joey Hungate.

In addition to his wife and parents, William was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Johns.

Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, St. Paul.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
