Albert L. "Al" Evans, 66

Albert L. "Al" Evans, 66, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, Sept. 7 as a result of an accident at his farm northeast of Westport.

He was born on March 22, 1943 to parents Ren M. and Bertie Mae (Clemons) Evans. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and a 40 year resident of Westport.

He graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1961. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1988 after 25 years of service. He retired from Von Duprin at Indianapolis in 2006 after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Westport Christian Church, the REMC Nominating Committee and a mentor at South Decatur Elementary School. His hobbies included farming and he enjoyed fishing, 4 wheeling and sports with his grandchildren. He was married to Clara F. Tobias in Westport on Oct. 27, 1961.

Survivors include: wife Clara F. Evans of Greensburg; one son Darren (Terri) Evans of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Jacob Evans of Greensburg and Colin Evans of Greensburg; three brothers, Floyd Evans of Westport, John Walter (Maxine) Evans of Hamilton, Indiana and Elbert (Helen) Evans of Butler, Indiana; and one sister-in-law Mary Evelyn Evans of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Darrel W. Evans, sister Mary Francis Evans and brother Charles Evans.

The funeral is set for Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport. Officiating will be Pastor Chris Gobin and Rev. David Burnett. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery.

Visitation is set for Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
