South FCCLA Dives Into ‘An Ocean Of Opportunities’

GREENSBURG - Four South Decatur FCCLA members traveled to the Windham Hotel in Indianapolis to participate in an Ocean of Opportunities at the 2010 State Leadership Conference this past weekend.

The group celebrated the 65th year of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). All four South Decatur attendees participated in Star Events Competition:

Patsy Valencia received a Gold award in the State Project Dynamic Dating. Participants in Dynamic Dating complete a portfolio and a display board to demonstrate knowledge acquired on various topics related to dating. Krista Combs and Elizabeth Ralston received a Silver Medal in Chapter Showcase Display Star Event. To complete the showcase project, Combs and Ralston prepared a display and an oral presentation to illustrate how the South Decatur FCCLA Chapter is a well-balanced program and promotes FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences to the community.

Chelsi Gilbert received a Silver Medal in Life Event Planning. Chelsi planned a surprise birthday party for thirty guests and placed first alternate to National Conference in her event.

Those who completed the Power of One were also recognized at the conference. FCCLA members who completed all five units this year were: Taylor Barkdull; Leah Crank; Kayleigh Marshall; and Lexi Shera. The Power of One program encourages members to make positive changes in their families, careers, and communities one goal at a time.

Joyce Crane, the Family and Consumer Science Teacher and FCCLA chapter adviser, accompanied the delegation.
