Greensburg —
Lieutenant Robert Duckworth of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department (DCSD) shared Friday’s results of the DCSD and Greensburg Police Department’s (GPD) sobriety checkpoint operation.
According to a press release, 209 vehicles passed through two checkpoints located at US 421 South. and McKee Street, and State Road 46 at West Street.
“Comments from drivers passing through were positive of the officers’ efforts,” said Duckworth. “It is encouraging to see citizens using designated drivers and making smart choices before choosing to get behind the wheel.”
One hundred fifty-three vehicles passed through the US 421 checkpoint, and 51 were chosen to be investigated for alcoholic beverage consumption. Fifty-six vehicles were screened on State Road 46.
In total, two people were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving, though those individuals were found to be under the legal limit for operating a vehicle in the State of Indiana after submitting to a field sobriety test.
According to the press release, arrests were made of individuals in possession of marijuana.
Among other issues which arose were a notice to appear in court for driving while suspended with a prior conviction and false and fictitious vehicle registrations. Citations were issued for driving with open containers, and operating a motor vehicle while suspended.
The Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 unit was present for the checkpoints, and K-9 Officer Keno alerted the DCSD to the investigation of three vehicles.
