At their regular meeting this week, the Greensburg Board of Aviation Commissioners elected officers for 2012.
Current president Bill Ernstes was unanimously reappointed president for 2012, and Dr. Jon Dooley was unanimously appointed vice president.
According to Commissioner Dooley's financial report, the current balance in the airport's Improvement account is $137,395.92, while the Aviation Rotary Fuel account balance stands at $75,423.16; the airport Operations account balance stands $174,388.70. The total between the three accounts is $387,207.78
Ernstes reported that the airport's current fuel stock is valued at $57,227.10; he also confirmed that, over the past year, the airport has raised fuel prices $0.90 per gallon.
Ernstes also reported that hangar repair from the May storms is nearly complete. Hangar G, the building previously rented by Skydive Greensburg, is the final structure undergoing repair, with work on the structure progressing well.
Ernstes told the other commissioners that new snow removal equipment (SRE) had been shipped from Canada and that the attachments had already been received. Ernestes didn't know the SRE's precise arrival date, but expressed optimism it would arrive in time for the County's next round of inclement weather.
Don Manley, of Butler, Fairman & Seufert, told the commissioners that the final draft of the airport's long-standing environmental study for expansion has been submitted to the FAA.
"The FAA," Manley said, "is currently reviewing that draft; it's on the top of their list of things to do. We expect a response from them, at which time we'll submit an environmental document for a public hearing on the matter."
Ernstes reported he'd received information from the United States Air Force regarding the no-fly zone during the upcoming "Big Game" Feb. 5.
"I don't know, precisely, how far the no-fly zone will extend," Ernestes said, "but the Air Force told me not to be surprised if we see fighter jets patrolling near Greensburg."
Manley added, "Between Monday and Wednesday of Big Game week, they're expecting some 1,200 aircraft to be coming in."
