Greensburg man finalist in new home contest

Greensburg — Scott Adkins of Greensburg, is in the top 10 finalists out 2,000 entries striving for a $25,000 prize to go toward a new home.

Sponsored by BMO Harris Bank, Scott’s short essay described a dream home for his three children and fiancee:

“A covered porch with a swing for my wife to sit and read. A big kitchen, with an island big enough for Sunday breakfast. Two princess rooms, one dinosaur room, and an oasis where the wife and I escape. A finished basement for before bed storytime, and game night; a home where life flows beautifully.”

Scott has worked as a dump truck driver for approximately three years, and his fiancee works at Honda. Together they are raising a two-year-old, a three-year-old, and a six-month-old.

Every winter, Scott is laid off from his job and has to apply for unemployment until he can be rehired at Johnson Trucking. The shaky financial situation has made establishing a good enough foundation for Scott and his fiancee to buy their own home difficult. The family has rented their home for approximately five years, something Scott would like to see change.

“If we rent for so much for a month,” said Scott, “I’d really like that to be going to a home that will someday be ours.”

The contest winner will be decided by who has the most amount of “likes” on Facebook.

Those looking to help the Adkins family in the contest can go to https://www.facebook.com/BMOHarrisBank, and “like” the page.

A graphic with all the pictures of the contestants will be on Harris Bank’s page, with the link http://on.fb.me/X7M0RH. Facebook users can then click the link, and “like” the page the link leads toward.

Photographs of the contestants will be available to click and vote for, including Scott Adkin’s. Monday, March 18, is the final day of voting.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be selected as one of the finalists,” Adkins told the Daily News Wednesday.

“It would help my family’s life a lot.”
