Lenghty Investigation Leads To Arrest For Molestation
An alleged deviant sexual act with a child that occurred in November of 2008 ended with an arrest this weekend in Greensburg.
On Friday, Oct. 16, Jerrod S. Owens, 30, of 853 E. 800 S., Shelbyville, was arrested on a bench warrant for child molestation, a Class A Felony. A $50,000 bond was set. Though his address is in Shelbyville, Owens does have a home in Greensburg, the last known residence being at 317 Lou Lane.
According to court documents and Greensburg Police Chief Brian Heaton, the alleged incident occurred almost a year ago with a female child that, at the time, was 10 years old. Court documents indicate that Owens allegedly “engaged in sexual intercourse and deviate sexual conduct” with the child. Because Owens was more than 21 years old at the time of the incident, he was charged with the Class A Felony.
Following an in-depth investigation by the Greensburg Police Department, the report was submitted to the Decatur County Prosecutor’s office.
At a probable cause hearing, the court found enough evidence existed to arrest and charge the defendant, Owens. That action directed a warrant to be issued for his arrest.
A bench warrant was issued for Owens’ arrest on Tuesday, Oct. 13. He was arrested three days later.
A conviction upon charges of a Class A Felony can result in fines of up to $10,000 and a prison sentence of up to 50 years. If convicted, Owens would have to register as a sex offender for at least 10 years.
