The Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library is scheduled to be closed Monday Feb. 4, as the library kicks off renovations by replacing its 19-year-old carpet. Feb. 4 is the only day the library will be closed.
Sections of the library may be unreachable during the scheduled three weeks of renovations, according to library director Andrea Ingmire.
From Feb. 4 to Feb. 22, some noticeable changes will be upturning books and shelves while volunteers help move furniture.
Using money from the library’s savings, not tax money, Ingmire provided a tentative $140,000 estimate for the changes planned.
In addition to the carpet, there will be some construction; the front desk will be modified; the windows will be tinted; and there will be some new furniture.
Several of the current rooms’ uses will be shuffled as the renovations attempt to create space for people to congregate and not disturb other library-goers. There will be a new children’s room, said Ingmire, and much of the shelving will be rearranged.
The library is still looking for volunteers to help move furniture, mostly on the week of Feb. 18.
Many businesses have volunteered their employees, said Ingmire, including MainSource Bank, State Farm Insurance, Frontier, and the Optimist Club, in addition to the individuals who have volunteered their time.
