Ventriloquist bringing faith-based act to town

Greensburg — Professional Ventriloquist Karen Gabbard of Vandalia, Ohio, will perform starting at 4 p.m., March 2, at Cross Word Family Worship Center, located 1008 East Main Street.

Gabbard’s husband, Jason, worship and youth pastor at Vandalia Christian Tabernacle, will give the message following his wife’s performance.

Cross Word Pastor Jimmy Ison called Gabbard an extraordinary talent.

“I’ve seen her before,” he said, “as a minister at other churches. I’ve known her about three years. She’s absolutely captivating. This lady has a gift like nobody you’ll ever meet.”

Ison also lauded Gabbard’s ongoing affiliation with famed Texas-based minister TD Jakes. “She performs every year at TD Jakes’ Youth Conference.”

Gabbard herself briefly spoke with the Daily News Tuesday afternoon.

“I’ve been working as a professional ventriloquist 20 years,” she said. “My ‘associate’ is a dog named Ralph; kids are drawn to him. We call the show the ‘Karen & Ralph Ministry. In my 20 years, we’ve visited 33 states and six countries, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in ventriloquism, puppetry, drama, skits and music. We’ve seen thousands of kids led to Christ.”

She added, “Our ministry is unique and different. We’re able to share Christ with a unique twist and humor. We believe the joy of the Lord is our strength; that’s one of the guiding principals behind our ministry. He lifts us up in times of trouble by helping us laugh. We invite the entire community to come out and worship and have a good time with us — especially kids.”
