Westport —
Louis Scott Gant, 39, of Westport was arrested Wednesday by members of the Indiana State Police, and he now faces multiple drug-related charges.
Gant will be tried for dealing (manufacturing) in methamphetamine, a class “B” felony, and possession of methamphetamine, a class “C” felony.
According to Charging Information filed in the Decatur Circuit Court Thursday, Gant knowingly collected the items necessary for manufacturing methamphetamine, and illegally sold the drug after producing it.
He also possessed, without a prescription, quantities of methamphetamine while in possession of a Smith and Wesson .22 caliber handgun, and a Clerke .22 caliber revolver handgun.
Gant appeared in court Thursday for his preliminary hearing.
Gant requested legal representation and was appointed Tamara Drummond Butler for a fee of $100 after the court determined the defendant is indigent.
A preliminary plea of not guilty was entered on behalf of Gant in the Circuit Court Thursday.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Feb. 25, 2013.
A cash bond in the amount of $25,000 has been set for Gant.
