Thursday night’s regularly scheduled Decatur County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) meeting looked toward the future in more ways than one.
New EMA Director Rob Duckworth tended to the group’s business in the EMA Office, setting a schedule for the group’s meetings next year.
The EMA members will meet Feb. 21, June 20, Sept. 19 and Dec. 19, 2013.
The lengthy but mostly uneventful meeting saw discussion of new Deputy EMA Director Peggy Brown, who is presently progressing in her orientation in the new position. Duckworth and Brown were appointed to their respective duties in August via a vote from the Decatur County Commissioners. Both work in a part-time capacity in heading up the organization and are complemented by an Advisory Council that votes on decisions for the group.
Duckworth had previously served as interim Director since the summer of 2011.
Residents of Decatur County interested in receiving weather updates regarding severe weather alerts and other emergencies may do so in a number of ways.
The EMA has its own Facebook page that is regularly updated. Facebook users can simply “like” the page to view these updates.
Similarly, the Decatur County EMA is on Twitter. The feed will contain the same updates as seen on the organization’s Facebook page, which are updated via the NIXLE alert system.
NIXLE is available to area users simply by texting their zip code to 888777. This service allows users to receive updates, in the form of text messages, on cell phones. The messages include severe weather alerts, road closings and other information vital to the public.
