Hospice Fundraiser Brings In The Green
GREENSBURG - Hospice of Decatur County held their 15th Annual Golf Tournament on June 24 at the Greensburg Country Club.
A total of 21 teams participated in the tournament. Darnell Hillman, a past player with the Indiana Pacers, played in the tournament this year as the first celebrity golfer for the event.
"We were so excited that Darnell was able to golf and very pleased that he plans to play again next year. He also hopes to bring a few additional NBA stars to the tournament," stated Deb Cummings Manager of Fund Development and Marketing. "We think this will add excitement to the event as well as perhaps encourage more participants to golf."
John Nieman, co-chair of the tournament was pleased with the results.
"Even with a down economy the tournament this year raised over $26,000. More importantly, over the past 15 years, this tournament has raised over $315,000 to provide care for patients and families served by Hospice of Decatur County. We greatly appreciate the generous support of the community and our sponsors and players. We couldn’t have the event without them! It has been a real honor for the committee to hold this yearly event for Hospice and we look forward to many more tournaments."
Volunteers Niemen and Jerry Westhafer co- chair the tournament. The other members of the 2009 Golf Tournament Committee include, Claude and Dottie Bilbrey, Sue Colee, Deb Cummings, Jay and Teresa Hatton, Al Knecht, Bob Navarra, John and Peg Nieman, Greta Solgere, Tammie Spurlock, Jim Sturges, Dr. Art Turner, David Trexler, Jerry Westhafer and Sharon Wickens.
Hospice of Decatur County, which is an office of Hospice of South Central Indiana, Inc., is a not-for-profit, community-based program that provides professional medical care and support services for patients and their families with a terminal illness.
