After being involved in an evening crash on Sunday, June 14, Robert Bennett, 38, of 997 W. County Road 450 South, Shelbyville, was taken via Lifeline helicopter for medical treatment.
He was in a vehicle with William Fenley, 37, on State Road 46 west of Greensburg when the car slammed into a utility guide wire and a tree at a high rate of speed while allegedly in pursuit of a man on a motorcycle.
At 10:30 a.m. on June 24, just 10 days after the June 14 crash, Bennett was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a prior and for being a habitual traffic violator. No bond was set.
Decatur County Sheriff Daryl Templeton explained that the two incidents were connected only by Bennett’s involvement. The driver in the crash that sent Bennett to the hospital has yet to be determined.
“No one remembers,” Templeton noted.
On June 24, an Indiana State Police trooper arrested Bennett while intoxicated and driving a scooter along State Road 46, Templeton said.
