Friday morning, sounds of barking and panting wafted across the courhouse lawn as the Sesquicentennial Dog Show kicked off the day.
Entrants competed in the following categories: Cutest, Most Unusual, Best Costume, Dog/Owner Look-alike, Smallest, Tallest, Hairiest and Best trick.
With more than 50 dogs of all shapes, sizes, colors, ages and breeds gathered around on the west side of the square, the panel of judges had much to accomplish. Still, by about 10:30 a.m., the winners had been decided.
First place in the category of cutest dog went to Ashley Evans and her dog Olive. In the most unusual looking category, Corrigan Davis and her dog Harley took the prize. Julie and Bruce Cox’s dog Lucy took the winning spot in two categories. Julie competed with her in the costume portion, taking first place. Next, Bruce showed exactly how much dog and owner can look alike, also bringing home a medal. Alexis Bautista’s dog Bolt was named the number one smallest dog while Hannah Sovern’s dog Bladen earned his title as the tallest. Dorothy Stark’s dog Ozzie, handled by neighbor Andrew Welage, was given the title of hairiest dog, and judge Mike Wenning, Animal Control Officer for Greensburg and Decatur County, thanked the many participants for the dedication they show to their pets before moving on to announce the final winner. The best trick, the judges decided, was performed by Erica Wilson and her dog Champ.
