With the Sesquicentennial Celebration just days away, businesses across the city are preparing to participate in Industrial Progress Day on Monday.
During the Centennial Week of 1959, Monday, June 15 was dedicated to industry. This year’s celebration will hold fast to the importance of industry in the life of the City of Greensburg.
Exactly 50 years ago, Bohn Aluminum, Delta Faucet, Randall, Dry Clime, Ashley Machine Shop and Consolidated Veneer each held open houses and tours. Following in that tradition, three times as many businesses will be participating this year. They include Sintering Technologies (STI), Brenda Dwenger, Greensburg Urgent Care, Curves, Signs by Myer, Napoleon State Bank, Vinyl Solutions Unlimited, Decatur County Library, Wolf Theatres, Greensburg Daily News, Susie Ricke State Farm, Enhanced Telecommunications, Green Sign Co., Fairfield Inn by Mariott, M&S; Precision, Walker Financial, Greensburg Learning Center and College Cooperative Southeast.
While each business had its own reason for choosing to participate in the day, Sintering Technologies, Inc. was inspired to take up a role in the Sesquicentennial by a variety of causes.
"Even though the automotive industry, and the economy in general, is experiencing a severe downturn, STI feels it is important to support the community in both good and bad times. We are excited and proud to celebrate Greensburg's sesquicentennial by offering guided tours of our plant. This will enable residents to learn more about our company, the powdered metal process, and the manufacture of automotive components. We hope many people will take advantage of the opportunity to visit STI, as well as the other businesses participating in Industrial Progress Day," Linda Campbell, Assistant Manager of Human Resources for STI, said.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Economic Development Corporation of Greensburg and Decatur County has coordinated a Business Expo to highlight still more industrial interests in the Greensburg Community. Natasha Nobbe Kellerman, EDC, said there are 17 confirmed participating organizations representing a broad array of businesses. The Expo will include the Arts and Cultural Council of Decatur County, banks, SunTan City, Custom Conveyor, Honda, Devita and about a dozen others.
The day will also include a Business Battle to be held at the YMCA from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
