Greensburg —
The Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library kicked off the community's GoGreensburg program with a book cover design contest this week.
The competition allows area youth with a creative bent to illustrate an original book cover using standard non-lined paper.
The titles are Diary of a Race Car Driver, Elephants Don't Drive Race Cars or The Day (fill in the blank) Won the Indy 500.
Designs will be judged on creativity, with winners being selected April 18.
The contest is open for Decatur County residents up to grade 12.
Categories include pre-kindergarten, kindergarten through grade 2, grades 3 through 5, grades 6 through 8 and grades 9 through 12.
Entry forms for the free book design contest are available at the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library, the Westport branch, the Bookmobile and online at www.greensburglibrary.org.
The website also includes a list of rules for the contest, which runs until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15.
The library has asked that entry forms be paper-clipped to the entrant's art submission. The entrant's name should not be included on the artwork itself and forms must be filled out correctly.
Winners in each category will be announced April 18.
Prizes for the contest's winning artists include two free tickets to Qualification Day for the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as well as two free movie passes to Wolf Theaters. Additionally, an age-appropriate book will be given to the winners at no charge.
Winning artists will also receive the distinction of having his or her work displayed at the library through May 1.
Part of the highly-anticipated GoGreensburg program, the contest hopes to inspire more participation in an event that could potentially award Decatur County $20,000 toward a future community project.
