Greensburg —
Sunday evening, Nov. 11, Matthew Abell, 27, of St. Paul, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a class “D” felony, and for possession of marijuana, a class “A” misdemeanor.
According to police reports, Officer Russell Growe of the Westport Police Department clocked Abell driving 10 miles over the speed limit. He was headed south on State Road 3, north of County Road 950 South. Officer Growe stated that Abell was pulled over for speeding. When Abell began arguing, Officer Growe noticed that Abell was shaking and that his eyes were bloodshot.
Officer Growe asked if Abell had been consuming alcoholic beverages. Abell allegedly turned away and placed his hands on the ceiling of his car where Officer Growe couldn’t see them. Growe requested multiple times that Abell place his hands where they could be seen before Abell consented.
Officer Growe requested that Abell turn off his car and exit the vehicle.
According to police reports, Abell consented to be frisked. Officer Growe discovered nine white hydrocodone (a prescription pain medicine) pills, and another bag containing marijuana. Abell was subsequently arrested.
He’s currently being held without bond, with a court date yet to be set.
