Safety Fair safely a success

Greensburg — Last Saturday’s fifth annual Safety Fair held by Gilliland Howe saw approximately 700 people in attendance.

Leslie Asche-Thackery, coordinator and funeral home director, said this year was the first year the fair had entrances, which allowed a better opportunity to calculate how many people attended.

“It went really well,” said Asche-Thackery. Several vendors didn’t expect the high volume of people and ran out of hand outs, and Sandcreek Baptist was out of chili and hot chocolate by 12:30 p.m.

The Central Indiana Blood Center’s (CIBC) “blood truck” received a steady stream of donations, keeping CIBC’s volunteers busy throughout the afternoon.

The Decatur County Family YMCA experienced a bit of a road block when the National Guard did not appear with the anticipated rock climbing wall.

“We’re sorry, on behalf of the National Guard, that they were not able to attend.” said a YMCA representative, who went on to add that the YMCA has yet to receive word on why the National Guard did not appear.

Prize winners seemed to fare better.

Asche-Thackery said the winner of the iPad was Seth Brett, and the winner of the laptop was Amy Hurley.
