Bike Ride Fundraiser Helps YMCA Invest In Youth

GREENSBURG - This past Saturday, a group of cycling enthusiasts helped give back to their community as they put on their helmets and hit the county roads for the Decatur County Family YMCA’s first Bike for Youth charity ride.

The ride started and finished at the Greensburg Elementary School, in which riders choose to ride either a 29-mile course, which went to and around Lake Santee and back, or they could take a much shorter 13-mile ride out NE80, to 600 E, then back on Base Road to the school. All of the cyclists enjoyed the ride, as the weather was at its best.

The registration fees for the non-competitive bike ride went directly to the YMCA’s Invest in Youth Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to those in need in and around our community.

“We live in an age where many households are headed by single parents or a home where both parents need to work full time. Many struggle to make a life for their families. When you support the Invest in Youth program, you help to provide meaningful programs, and create opportunities through meaningful personal relationships that enhance individual development and instill the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in every youth,” Deena Hamer, fitness and group exercise coordinator at the Y, said.

The YMCA thanked Health 1st for sponsoring the event by providing water, Gatorade, and snacks, and all of the cyclists that came out for the ride.
