Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, a truck from Fraley and Schilling Inc., in Rushville, slipped off the roadway and had to be lifted out with two tow trucks.
At the intersection of Freeland Road and State Road 3 in front of Chili’s Grill and Bar and the Walgreens pharmacy, the driver of the semi truck attempted to make a right onto Freeland Road from the highway. Greensburg resident Bob Howard watched the entire event unfold.
As Howard waited in his vehicle for his family to come out of Walgreens, he watched the truck make its right turn onto Freeland Road. Encountering two vehicles preparing to turn left and right, the semi driver attempted to slink around them.
“It looked like he tried to take it as wide as he could,” Howard said. “I thought he had it the first time.”
Unfortunately, he could not make it and slipped back into the ditch at the intersection. The driver reportedly exited the vehicle and called for help, while Howard telephoned the Greensburg Police Department for further assistance.
Two wreckers, one from Sweet’s Auto and the other from Davis Towing and Recovery, worked together first to level out the rig and then unwedge it from the ditch.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, but the portion of Freeland Road between Chili’s and Walgreens was temporarily blocked off to traffic.
