Thursday morning, the Board of Directors of the Greensburg’s First Federal Savings & Loan presented a $100,000 commitment for the “Reach” Campaign, which officially launches in early January.
In providing this historic gift, First Federal has demonstrated local pride and leadership, while setting the tone and pace for the upcoming capital campaign to benefit Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH).
Hospital Foundation Board President Cleo Duncan was among the team members accepting the contribution, saying, “This gift demonstrates the commitment of First Federal, not only to our hospital, but to this wonderful community. Their generosity provides a shining example for others in the area that could provide support for the improvements, which include a new Cancer Care unit, Physical Therapy and Hearing Center.”
Jim Saler, President and CEO of First Federal Savings & Loan commented, “As a locally-owned, hometown, financial institution, we have an appreciation for the important role DCMH plays in the economic vitality of our area. In addition, we understand the importance of its services for our customers and our community, so it was logical that we would give back in this manner.”
The current expansion underway at DCMH is part of Phase I construction and includes a new third and fourth floor, which will house the new medical-surgical unit and feature all private rooms. Patient rooms are able to be named by businesses, families and organizations.
The campaign, which launches after the first of the year, will bring added focus to the second phase of the project. Phase II should include a new ground-floor Cancer-Care Unit, Physical Therapy, Hearing Center, additional parking and other renovations.
DCMH President and CEO Linda Simmons stated, “All of our planned improvements will positively impact patient privacy, comfort and convenience. We are so grateful for First Federal Savings & Loan, as well as for other businesses and individuals who recognize the importance of having a strong local hospital and, through their generous giving, of supporting our not-for-profit efforts.”
