Two killed in Hartsville crash

Hartsville — A Friday evening vehicle accident resulted in the deaths of two Greensburg residents.

According to reports from Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department Major Todd Noblitt, Danielle Catron, 21, and Jeffrey Washburn, 22, were killed when their vehicle burst into flames following a collision on a slippery State Road 46 Friday night.

Investigators reported Catron was driving a van when she crossed the center line and struck the car of a Hope woman, later identified as Ann Schwartze. Schwartze was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where she was reported to be in stable condition. The Hope woman suffered bruises, cuts and a broken hip. Catron and Washburn were pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred at about 8 p.m. Friday, approximately halfway between Greensburg and Columbus.

Major Noblitt stated the van driven by Catron became engulfed in flames after the collision. He described efforts by onlookers to extinguish the fire as “heroic.”

Investigators believe the cause of the accident to be slick roads.
