BBBS Scores Big With Annual Fundraiser

Adam Huening

The annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraiser for Decatur County Big Brothers Big Sisters had the local bowling alley crammed with people ready to take a lane for a good cause.

This year’s event at Parkside Lanes brought hundreds of people on more than 100 teams, which was down from last year. However, the funds were still rolling in as quickly as the balls down the lanes. The organization scored another strike this year raising $38, 331.32. All of the money raised in the county stays here to help facilitate the mentoring and the local children who use it.

“We had 40 teams less than last year, but we still managed to raise about the same amount, which means the teams really stepped it up this year,” BBBS director Bev Karazsia said. “To be honest, I’m pleased. We had a lot of returning teams and several donations from sponsors and various groups. People pitching in is what helps make Bowl for Kids’ Sake a success, and I want to thank the community for their support.”
