Oodles Of Noodles Help Feed The Hungry

Like a well-oiled machine, cars lined up at the side entrance of the Community Church of Greensburg on Thursday. The drivers handed over their tickets and were given a big box of noodles, green beans, a dinner roll and a slice of pie before driving off.

The event was the Greensburg Community Bread of Life’s annual fundraiser, the Turkey Noodle Dinner. For weeks, the organization sold tickets to raise money for the operation, but this year’s event held more significance for the minds behind the soup kitchen.

Recently, the group purchased a new building on Randall Street in Greensburg. It took many years of work, but the new facility is more than twice the size and will have a separate dining area for the patrons with twice the seating capacity. The money from the Turkey Noodle Dinner will help out with the costs associated with the purchase and renovation of a new building. Beginning at the end of March, the Bread of Life will begin its capital campaign to help cover the cost of the new building as well.

While this year’s Turkey Noodle Dinner fundraiser is now in the past, there are still ways to help out the Greensburg Bread of Life. The Feinstein Million Dollar Challenge is taking place now until April 30. The Bread of Life is taking change and pennies to help their reach their goal of $10,000 for the challenge. Based upon the challenge, the Bread of Life will receive a percentage back from the Feinstein Foundation for every dollar reported. That money will also help with the building costs. Those interested in helping out or those with questions can call 812-663-1055 or 812-662-4887.

Sponsors for the Turkey Noodle Dinner included the Greensburg/Decatur County Farmers’ Market, Judy Mills, Reaching Light Ministries, Signs by Myer and Troyer’s Country Store. The Greensburg Community Bread of Life is open on Mondays and Wednesdays and serves patrons from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Donations are accepted on those days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
