On Saturday evening, members of the community came together to support Good Shepherd Christian Academy through a benefit dinner and an evening of silent and live auctions.
The local Christian school hosts the event annually to support the operations of the school, which teaches children from preschool through fifth grade. The funds raised help in controlling the cost of tuition as well as providing funds for some scholarship opportunities.
The weekend event featured steaks by “grill master” Shawn Bainbridge served by “celebrity waiters” Tim and Jeannie Bedel, Scott Chasteen, Brandi Claybrook, Paul and Julie Cruzan, Scott and Andrea Dennett, Charles and Lisa Fogg, Lesa Dwenger and Jered Hasselbring, Seth and Sarah Hellmich, Trevor and Maddi Hellmich, Bill and Jan Hubbard, Amy Kuhns, Pete and Kim Maxwell, Chuck and Scott Menefee, Jackie and Rebecca Mitchell, George and Barb Reiger, Larry and Pam Robbins, Hayley Schwering, Travis and Michelle Scudder, Dave and Karen Smith and Lisa Tressler and Deanna Young. Each waiter or pair of waiters had the responsibility of choosing a theme for their table and decorating it accordingly. These varied from garden and schoolroom themes to the 80’s era and a “Death By Chocolate” table.
For some tables, the event provided the opportunity to dress up along with the theme, as guests donned big-hair wigs or dunce caps to play the part. Other tables used their themes as a supplemental fundraiser. One table was pork-focused and orchestrated a young man taking “funny money” dollars in a porcine costume, calling out “kiss the pig” as he wandered across the First Baptist Church family life center.
In addition to the ticket sales and other efforts, funds were raised through silent and live auctions. The silent auction contained 58 items, from paintings to teeth whitening and guitar lessons. The live auction included an autographed Colts jersey and other sporting memorabilia as well as a variety of dinners, cookouts and other experiences.
The guests and their celebrity waiters kept up the energy of the auction until nearly 10 p.m., enjoying one another’s company as they bid to support the local school.
