A months-long multi-agency drug investigation resulted in the arrest of a Plainfield woman Wednesday.
According to Charging Information filed in the Decatur Circuit Court Thursday, Patricia L. Kennedy, 45, has been arrested and charged with three counts of dealing in a Schedule II controlled substance. The charges are defined as class “B” felonies.
Authorities assert Kennedy sold dozens of pills to undercover police officers on three different occasions in September and October. Police reports indicate Kennedy pocketed $400 in cash during the transactions, each of which involved the suspect allegedly selling prescription medication obtained from suppliers to authorities. One of those suppliers, according to a police report, was Kennedy’s mother.
The first incident occurred Sept. 12 and involved Kennedy selling 20 morphine pills in exchange for $100. A week later, Kennedy is said to have conducted a similar transaction involving 20 oxycodone pills, taking in $200 on that deal.
A third incident alleges Kennedy exchanged 20 more morphine pills for $100. All three incidents took place at Love’s Truck Stop in St. Paul.
Transactions involving Kennedy were electronically recorded, police said, and involve the suspect informing officers she would be able to acquire more pills — including roxicodone and methadone — in the future. Kennedy told police she had begun engaging in this activity due to financial difficulties while attempting to obtain employment. “I don’t want to do this ... for the rest of my life,” Kennedy is alleged to have said. “It’s too risky.”
Patricia L. Kennedy remained incarcerated at the Decatur County Jail at press time Thursday. No bond had been set for her release. The investigation involved officers with the Greensburg Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
