Snakes on a stage: First Christian Church hosts reptile program

Greensburg — First Christian Church invited herpetologist Rick Teepen and his assistant “Jungle Jenny” from the Creation Museum in Kentucky Wednesday night.

While there, Teepen displayed his scaly friends to a church full of well-fed kids and other curious onlookers.

After hosting a church-sized pitch-in featuring virtually every kind of picnic-style food imaginable (the food was intended to feed 200 people), Teepen showcased a number of reptiles to the excitable kids, while presenting a message of an artistic God and free will.

Teepen showed off a turtle, alligator, and several snakes of note including a yellow boa constrictor named Daisy, and brightly-colored corn snakes bearing the mutations of albinism.

Teepen had volunteers from his young audience hold some of the corn snakes, and he allowed the crowd to pet the alligator’s tail.

After the show, the kids were given the opportunity to hold the 27-foot, 70-pound baby python and have their picture taken.
