Greensburg teen injured in ATV accident

Greensburg — A Greensburg man suffered multiple injuries in an ATV accident early Sunday morning.

According to a report from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department (DCSD), Elliott Green, 19, was riding an all-terrain vehicle near U.S. Highway 421 and County Road 280 East shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday when, for unknown reasons, Green left the roadway and crashed.

The DCSD received an emergency call at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday reporting the accident.

Deputies Chris Hellmich and Doug Pittman arrived at the scene and found Green unconscious. He was transported by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an initial injury assessment by Decatur County EMS personnel.

Green received multiple injuries to his back in the accident and also suffered a facial fracture.

DCSD Lt. Rob Duckworth described Green’s injuries as “significant.”

The cause of the crash was still not known by investigators Monday afternoon. Indiana Conservation Officer Andy Hagerty is assisting the Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.

Duckworth stated his department is “trying to locate and interview witnesses” in order to determine a cause.

An update on Green’s status was not available by press time.
