Greensburg — When the popular local shop Goody's Family Clothing store began shutting down in Greensburg in late 2008, many distressed residents were left without a clothing store nearby.

However, this fall, Stage Stores Inc., will open their newest retail location in Greensburg, under the Goodys' nameplate, essentially bringing the store back to town. Since acquiring the name, Stage Stores has made the decision to open the New Goody's in communities where the name is already well-known, including Greensburg.

The New Goody's store 'promises to be the place to shop, bringing something more to shoppers in Greensburg, more style, more selection, more great values, more personalized service and more customer rewards,' according to a release from Stage Stores Inc. Customers to the new shop will have access to name-brand and private label family apparel, shoes, accessories, home decorations, gifts and more.

Stage Stores has been in the retail business for more than 100 years, and has earned a reputation for bringing merchandise and close-to-home locations to neighborhoods and communities across the country.

"We look forward to the New Goody's joining the community. By providing an enjoyable, one-stop shopping experience for the entire family, we hope to make life a bit easier for everyone in Greensburg," Andy Hall, President and CEO of Stage Stores, explained.

Almost two years ago, Goody's Family Clothing headquarters announced that it would be closing and liquidating the company, shutting down 287 stores in 20 states, with the Goody's in Greensburg also getting the axe. During the economic boom of the 1990s, Goody's was one of the nation's fastest-growing clothing retailers. The chain was a privately owned company that re-emerged from bankruptcy a few years ago. According to Goody's corporate website, the chain had successfully ended their Chapter 11 bankruptcy case in October of 2008. During the process, Goody's attempted to streamline and improve operations while reducing costs.

Stage Stores acts as the parent company of Goody's, and operates more than 775 stores located in 39 states. Those stores include: Goody's; Bealls; Palais Royal; Peebles; and Stage stores.
