Pirates celebrate Red Ribbon Week

Greensburg — Greensburg Junior High School was honored to host four representatives of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department as part of its Red Ribbon Week celebration.  Officer Doug Pittman spoke to students regarding the dangers and legal consequences of drug abuse.

Officers Eric Blodgett and Derek Fasnacht assisted with the program.  A special demonstration by Keno, Officer Pittman’s K-9 partner, highlighted the educational program.  Students learned about Keno’s help in locating drugs, apprehending suspects and protecting his fellow officers.

Sheriff Greg Allen later added that “Red Ribbon Week is a great idea to teach kids about being drug free.”  Sheriff Allen reiterated that law enforcement officers want to teach students to identify signs of drug abuse and educate them in staying safe.  He said that Red Ribbon Week is also a good way for officers to meet students and help the community.

Greensburg Junior  High also received a Red Ribbon Mini Grant from the Decatur County Community Action Coalition.  This group promotes drug free education in the community.  The grant funds were used in other Red Ribbon activities throughout the week.
