OLDENBURG – Oldenburg Academy of the Immaculate Conception will welcome back all of its alums the weekend of Oct. 9 through Oct. 11.
Alumni Homecoming is a fusion of the past and the future. Alums reconnect with their alma mater, catch up with classmates and friends, remember the fun they had in high school and experience the excitement of today’s Oldenburg Academy.
Homecoming weekend begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 with the first ever Distinguished Alumni Award Event, which will be held at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club in Batesville.
The Oldenburg Academy Alumni Association is pleased to announce the late Holly Bruns, class of 1974, has been selected as the recipient for the 2009 Oldenburg Academy Distinguished Alumni Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding alumni of Oldenburg Academy/Immaculate Conception Academy who have taken their education and Christian values and made a significant contribution to their fields of endeavor and/or have achieved outstanding accomplishments, honors or recognition on behalf of their community or country. Bruns spent her teaching career at South Decatur High School where she inspired countless students through class and sports. She was killed by a drunk driver on Halloween, 2008. This event is open to the public, and tickets are $35 per person. Contact Sarah Lamping in the Oldenburg Academy Advancement Office to purchase a ticket.
Homecoming registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Sisters Parlor on Saturday, Oct. 10. Alumni are invited to catch up with classmates and friends while enjoying refreshments in the school cafeteria. At 10:30 a.m., Liturgy will be celebrated in the Sisters Chapel. The Virtue Honor and Education Tribute will be presented at 12:00 pm in the OA gymnasium. This year, the Alumni Association Board has chosen to recognize Ms. Pamela J. Burroughs, Oldenburg Academy art faculty, with the Virtue Honor and Education Tribute. The VHE Tribute was established in 2004 to recognize a living or deceased Oldenburg Academy faculty or staff member who has made a meaningful spiritual and educational impact upon the alumni. Lunch and the Alumni Association Meeting will follow the VHE Tribute presentation. Anniversary class photos will be taken during lunch, and campus tours will conclude the day’s events.
Homecoming weekend will conclude with golf on Sunday, Oct. 11 at Cricket Ridge Golf Course. This event is open to the public. Please contact Carmie Gindling Meyer ‘63 at ginger@etczone.com to register. Tee times begin at 12:00 p.m. The cost to play is $10 plus $7 for cart rental.
