On January 20, 2010 our lives changed forever when our 2-year-old son Ayden Shane Billingsley was diagnosed with a disease known as DNA Depletion Syndrome. Along his journey we have had the opportunity to get to know some very special people. A group of supporters, Ayden's Army, was created to show Ayden just how many people care about him. One of the people that has been very involved in Ayden's Army is an amazing young man Alex Sefton. Alex is 11 years old and is the son of Mike and Kay Sefton of Greensburg.
Our family has known Alex for 5 years. He and our oldest son Oakley have played baseball together and have become good friends. It was when Alex heard about Ayden's heath issues that we truly got to see just how big Alex's heart is. Alex came up with an idea that he wanted to open up a slushy stand at the baseball tournament in Greensburg and all of the proceeds would be donated to Ayden. He bought a state-of-the-art ice crushing machine with his own money and made his idea a reality. On May 22 to 23 Alex and his family set up at the tournament selling slushies and cookies. Everyone who purchased one of Alex's drinks could see that each one was made with love. He took so much pride in the fact that he was doing something good for someone else. Over the course of 2 days Alex sold many slushies. We were very touched when Alex presented us with an envelope of the money that he had raised and even more touching was the fact that he kept the receipt tape from every sale for us to keep in a scrapbook for Ayden.
We want to thank Alex so much for everything that he has done for Ayden. He is a caring young man that has helped make one little boy very happy. To be able to see the kindness in Alex makes us wonder just how great our world could be if there were more people like him. We do not have the words to tell him just how much his gesture has meant to us. During this difficult time we have been able to find God's blessing through Alex and many others like him. To see where Alex gets him kindnesses from you do not have to look very far. The entire Sefton family has been a true blessing for our family. Not only did they attend the benefit dance for Ayden you can also see them proudly wearing their Ayden's Army shirts. We could never express to them just how much they mean to us. Through the struggles of one little boy God has allowed the Sefton's to become part of our family. We are truly blessed for that.
