Letters to the Editor

February 22, 2010

Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

There was an article in the "Greensburg Daily News" on Wednesday February 17, 2010. The paper had many of our commissions and officials email address and phone number. It went on to say about our spending in Decatur County. In the article it had many of our officials email address and several phone number to contact if we did not approve spending on the airport in Greensburg. I do not feel that Greensburg need the airport. What about all of you out there?

I am asking each of you on this email that receives a copy of my email; please email your concern. Please pass onto more of your friends and family in Greensburg. Please see the email address above and they need your voice. Do you believe that Greensburg needs an airport? I would like to see it put up to a vote? That would be fair and all the voters in Decatur County would have a voice.

First I want to say a lot of the people are on the board many are my friends. I feel that I have a voice even if I disagreed. I have 2 sisters and we talk all the time and we disagree.

I am a concerned taxpayer and I want to know when will the spending stop. We do not need an airport. How many people in Decatur County will use the airport, 50???? It was stated in the "Greensburg Daily New" possible 8 months ago that the plants in town would not use the airport because was too expensive. If you remember also in the "Gburg Daily News" it stated that Bellefontaine, Ohio (a small community) built an airport and the airport was over $105,000.00 plus in debt. The airport would need to turn to the tax payers to pick up the debt. Will the 50 people put up the debt that will occur? I doubt it. Will all the people connected with the airport and their names in the paper give up their land for the airport? Let the people that are pushing for the airport pay for the airport. How about that?

Our water bill is going up to repair all the pipes that need to be fix. There are many breaks over Greensburg and those need to be fixed. That is necessary expense and needed to be fixed. The politicians are doing a good job on Lincoln street.

I heard that the Hildebrand airport was not operating; but I it may just be a rumor. If a few want the airport check out the Batesville airport if you feel one needs an airport and let the taxpayers off the hook.

Are they taking in consideration there was a ball complex and what about the danger. What about the people that paid taxes and own their property and now few want to take their land. You know the laws written are not always right.

We can travel 50 miles either way to Kentucky airport or Indy airport.

Sincerely,

Arlene A. Cook

Greensburg

    Dear Editor,
The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America reads as follows: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  • Reader reacts to State of the Union

    Dear Editor,
President Obama's State of the Union address contained much of the same lofty rhetoric we've become familiar with over the years, and was actually somewhat anti-climactic.

  • Why the rush?

    Dear Editor,
Why the rush to pass Right to Work? The Republicans have all the power and could pass this anytime during this short session.
