Honda ceremoniously breaks ground on 19th
In what promises to be the first of several momentous occasions, Honda announced it will be hosting a limited ground breaking ceremony on March 19.
Due to the tight construction schedule and the snow-soaked ground, the event will be smaller than previous Honda groundbreakings. With construction continuing throughout the winter, the site is not ready for an influx of pedestrian traffic.
“We were thrilled with the warm reception we received at the announcement Honda was locating to Decatur County. This is just another way for us to reach out to the community,” said Honda spokesman David Iida. “Even though the event will be small, it will be very meaningful. Honda wants to continue to solidify its relationship with the community.”
The groundbreaking will take place somewhere on the 1,600-acre site. High-ranking Honda executives are expected to share remarks and update community leaders, people close to the project and other invitees on the progress of the plant.
“We’ve already begun work on the ground, including leveling and placing pilings,’ Iida said. “We’re hosting the groundbreaking to share the moment with the community.”
Iida said the groundbreaking is a symbol of the way things are moving along for Honda in Decatur County.
“This is very exciting,” Iida said. “As far as groundbreakings go, it is coming a little later than usual but it shows the next step in the progression. It is a symbol that things are moving along very well and as planned.”
