Greensburg —
Saturday, there will be a lot of cross dressers on the courthouse square gathered for a good cause and some family fun.
The third annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser for New Directions will begin at 10 a.m. So far, more than 10 women's teams have signed up for the relay event while about eight to 10 men will don women's shoes for their mile-trek around the square, according to Jan Bartels, director of New Directions.
The event will feature two races. Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m. with the men's race beginning shortly after. Local men are required to slip on a pair of women's shoes, preferable high heels, for the race. The women's races will begin at 11 a.m. Those wishing to participate can sign up prior to the races.
Bartels said there will be a variety of activities available for the whole family. Stacy Lynn will perform in the gazebo during the event and chair massages will be available on the courthouse lawn. There will also be a number of games for children and refreshments.
Those who would rather sit around and receive some pampering for their fundraising efforts may take part in the Pedi Party. So far, Bartels said, about five men have signed up, including Chamber of Commerce Director Jeff Emsweller and City Council President Bill Wenning.
At will donations will also be accepted.
Bartels said all proceeds will go to help operate the local domestic violence shelter and Thrivent Solutions has committed to match all donations again this year.
Bartels encouraged families to bring a picnic blanket and come witness what has proven to be a fun and unique spectacle for the community.
