Fifth Sunday Musical Series Returns
GREENSBURG - The Historical Society of Decatur County announces the Sesquicentennial Edition of Fifth Sunday Musicals 2009, “150 Years of Music”.
The opening musical will be held at 2:30 p.m. this Sundayat the First Presbyterian Church. This presentation will feature a dual program introducing The Clabber Girls Kitchen Band. In the early days of Greensburg the pioneer ladies would put on their clean cotton, freshly ironed house dresses and “ sit a spell” with their coffee and play their kitchen instruments. The meeting would end with Pioneer Music. This Clabber Girls
Kitchen Band opens the 2009 Fifth Sunday musical season with remembrances of these “good ole days.” Also On March 29, the Clabber Girls are followed by the Greensburg Junior High Musical Ensemble with director Nick Parcell. This is a very popular group featuring a reading of “Casey at the Bat”.
The second in the Fifth Sunday Musical series is on Sunday May 31 featuring the “Mossberg Strings”. This violin family of five talented children is performing for their third Fifth Sunday appearance. The next Fifth Sunday falls on Aug. 30 and will feature the strains of the Harp with Carolyn Cleland. She fell in love with the harp at an early age and will present a program that will showcase her talent and many years experience.
The final Fifth Sunday performance will be Sunday Nov. 29 when Mark and Michele Murray will treat the crowd with music of the trumpet and piano with a holiday flair. This musical is dedicated to the memory of Franklin Corya and his lifetime of support and appreciation of classical music. All Fifth Sunday Musicals will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on North Franklin Street, at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public with a free will offering. After each musical there will be an opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments.
