As the Delta Theta Tau Sorority gathered for its 102nd National Convention, two members of the local chapter joined in the event.
Wilma Cornn and Kathy Moore represented the Delta Lambda Chapter from Greensburg at the convention in St. Louis, Missouri. The event, dubbed the 'Gateway to Sisterhood,' was held at Hilton St. Louis Frontenac with Ellen Love of the Gamma Pi chapter of New Paris, Ohio serving as the convention coordinator and 92 chapters represented.
Moore served as the convention's photographer throughout the week's many events, which included a 'Sister...Sisters' mixer, a 'Yah, Yah Delta Sisterhood!' informal and 'Star Spangled Sisters!' banquet.
Attendees learned of the efforts of their philanthropic organization during the convention, discovering that the total funds donated from all chapters this year reached $758,012.35. In addition, members supported their communities with 157,057.95 volunteer hours.
Delta Theta Tau focuses on philanthropy to the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias as well as working to support professionals in the areas of guidance and counseling. The sorority has an educational grant program that enables students to continue their learning at the graduate level in those fields. The 2010 delegates allocated $15,000 for the educational grants and $5,000 for Ectodermal Dysplasia - a disorder that effects the teeth, hair and skin of affected individuals.
The organization was founded in 1903 in Muncie by five young ladies in high school. The 103rd convention will be held at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids, Mich. In 2012, the convention will be located in San Antonio, Texas.
