Early this year, the organizers and volunteers at the Greensburg Community Bread of Life embarked on a mission, via a capital campaign, to raise money for an expanded facility and new equipment.
According to Tina Weber of the Bread of Life, that mission has been a success. The soup kitchenÕs capital campaign achieved its goal of $120,000. To date, $120,335 in cash and pledges has been accumulated. A recent donation of $3,000 from MainSource Bank assisted in the money milestone.
As work continues on the new Bread of Life building on Randall Street, donations will continue to be accepted and welcome. The building committee, led by Leonard Schoettmer, Jr., is currently completing the renovations to the building and putting on the finishing touches.
For years, the Greensburg Community Bread of Life served meals inside a small space and utilized every square inch of its location. The future space will provide much more room for both the volunteers and the kitchen's patrons, including more tables and easier access. All of the work at the Bread of Life is done by volunteers. The food that comes in is usually made available through donations.
But there is still some work to do before the Randall Street building becomes the new home of the Bread of Life.
"We hope to have the building ready by mid-August. We would like to thank the community for their overwhelming support. So far, 250 different individuals and organizations have given time, money and materials to the project," Weber explained.
