This month, Parkside Lanes recorded the highest series score ever to be bowled within its walls.
Bill Rork of New Point achieved this honor when he bowled an 858-point set during his regular league bowling night on Feb. 3.
“I never shook so many hands as I did that night,” he smiled.
The local bowling establishment opened its doors in August of 1962 and installed new AMS superior performance synthetic lanes in May of last year.
“Parkside has done a great job keeping the lanes dressed,” Rork noted.
The new record-holder noted that bowling a 300 in the first game of the series was unbelievable to him.
“I’ve never been on top,” he noted.
Rork has been involved in league bowling for about 20 years and is happy to now have his name emblazoned next to the new high score. Still, he was not the only one to bowl a perfect game that week. Bob Fisse and Garry Schwering also marked that achievement.
Tom Schoettmer, who has worked at Parkside for 40 years, noted that scores have been rising since the installation of the new lanes. League bowlers, he also noted, patronize the establishment every night except for Saturday. Still, there are lanes available for those just wishing to roll a game or two. League bowling, he explained, has a 30-week season running from September through April, and teams including only ladies, only men or some combination of the two participate each season.
