Greensburg — As most people know, the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library is home to a great many books, DVDS, and magazines. The Library has a good sized computer lab, Internet access, including wireless access and a wealth of computer programs for the public to use. The Library offers programs and events and public meeting space. While most people know about these advantages of the public library, what you may not know is that the library's website offers many more benefits from the comfort of your own home.

Visiting the Library's website Ñ www.greensburglibrary.org Ñ will allow you to access many useful databases, including TumbleBooks, e-Indiana Digital Consortium (downloadable books), Inspire (Indiana's Virtual Library) and Chilton Online Auto Repair. Two of our newest databases are the topic of this article Ñ Gale Career Transitions and Gale Legal Forms. The Library encourages you to use these databases as they are available through the Library's annual budget provided by tax dollars.

Accessing the Gale Career Transitions site is easy. Simply visit the library's website, hover over the Research It tab at the top of the main page for a dropdown of the databases, mouse down to Career Transitions and click. Click Proceed on the next page and that's it! You will need to enter your Library card number. If you don't have a Library card, you can get one easily. All residents of Decatur County, as well as non-resident property owners, are entitled to an Evergreen Indiana Library card. This card can be obtained at any of the Greensburg Ñ Decatur County Public Library locations: Greensburg Library, Westport Branch and Bookmobile. Proper identification must be presented.

Proper Identification is one of the following:

- a valid Indiana Driver's License which displays a current address;

- valid Indiana State ID which displays a current address; or

- a current government issued photo ID.

If the presented Proper Identification does not display a current address, the applicant must present one item from the Approved List in addition to the Indiana Driver's License, Indiana State ID or other government issued photo ID presented as Proper Identification. The ID presented from the Approved List must include a current address.

Approved List of ID includes:

- valid voter registration card,

- valid current government issued ID (e.g., military ID, passport),

- bank statement issued within the last 60 days,

- utility bill issued within the last 60 days, or

- property tax receipt.

Your Library card is your ticket to most of the services the Library offers!

Career Transitions allows you to search for jobs and internships by title or location. You can build a resume, see resume examples, learn more about cover letters and posting your resume online. There are related videos such as "Tips to Keep Your Resume out of the Trash" and "Resume Advice Ð Common Mistakes." There is even an Interview Simulation to help you practice your interviewing skills.

If you aren't sure what job or career you might be interested in or suited for, click the Assess Your Career Interests link. This will take you to a short survey to help you identify your career interests. You can also browse career paths, match experience to careers and search schools and programs. This database has a wealth of information for the unemployed or those looking to change careers.

Accessing the Gale Legal Forms database is the same as Career Transitions. You will be required to provide your library card number. From this site you can choose from Legal Information Resources to see Legal Questions and Answers, Legal Definitions and a Law Digest. The Q & A section has questions and answers on almost everything from A to Z. The list begins with Abandoned Property and ends with Zoning. You will find commonly asked questions and answers on bankruptcy, divorce, wills, etc. The Legal Definitions link will provide you with legal terms and definitions and the Law Digest provides Law Summaries for all 50 states and information generally applicable to all states. The Law Digest has hundreds of legal topics with specific information to allow you to research your legal question. Within each Law Digest entry you might find additional resources, including government organizations and their contact information, bibliography for further research, and links to related subjects.

The Gale Legal Forms site also provides links to tax forms, both federal and state specific, an attorney directory, as well as links to all sorts of legal forms. You will find sample letters for numerous specific situations like maternity leave, employee discipline, confirmation of telephone conversation, notice to a neighbor to clean their yard, and many more.

These two databases and others provided on the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library website along with the books, DVDS, magazines, computers, Internet, etc. are the result of the Library Board members, Library Director and staff using tax dollars to the best benefit of the community.
