As the Greensburg RC Club prepares to end its racing season in October, the local track was recently asked to play host to the fifth and final race in the venerable Indiana Electric Offroad State Champ Series this weekend.
According to RC Club treasurer Dan Pacilio, crews have been working to beef up the track before the big race.
“It looks really good,” he said.
The Indiana State Electric Offroad Champ series is a five-race point series in which the contest winner in a best three-out-of-five competition will be named the state champion.
“This is the first time this race has come to Greensburg,” Dan Rennekamp explained. “We’re expecting a crowd, so we’re going to make the place look presentable.”
Rennekamp and his crew will add jumps to the track, and smooth out the bumps and remove weeds and grass that can pop up through the dirt.
“It’s a construction site now,” Rennekamp said. “But it’ll look a lot better come Saturday.”
According to Rennekamp, crowds will likely begin gathering at the track near the fairgrounds on Saturday, Sept. 27. All day, the racers will be able to get the feel of the track and devise winning strategies during the open practice.
On Sunday, racers will take their marks and cramp up their throttle fingers when the race begins following a few rounds of qualifying, which begin at 12 p.m.
“The main race will be immediately after the qualifying,” Rennekamp said.
Anyone who is interested is invited to attend, Rennekamp added, free of charge. Those who have questions or are seeking more information about the club can contact Dan Pacilio at the Greensburg Electronics/RadioShack at 663-4644.
