Greensburg —
“O ancient cousin, O Neanderthaler! What shapes beguiled, what shadows fled across your early mind? Here are your bones, and hollow crumbled skull. And here your shapen flints-the last inert mute witness to so long vanished strength. What loves had you, what words to speak, what worships, cousin?”
Neanderthals flourished 25,000 to 100,000 years ago. Definite evidence has been found in their graves.
The year 2010 will always be remembered by genetic anthropologists that the Neanderthals did not die out, but instead became us!
The Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology in Lelpzig, led by genetic anthropologist Svante Paabo, announced that a first draft DNA sequence of Neanderthal had been discovered.
Although the DNA sequence includes only 60 percent of the Neanderthal genome, it does provide insight into the biology of this “distinctive human species.”
