Our View: Missed Opportunity

Greensburg — What is arguably the biggest sporting event in the country, the National Football League's Super Bowl, will be played Sunday less than an hour from Decatur County.

Thousands of people from throughout the United States and beyond are in Indiana this week as they prepare to visit Lucas Oil Stadium to watch the big game.

Many Hoosier communities are hosting a variety of special events this week to keep some of those visitors close while they are here, at least close enough to help provide a positive bump to local economies.

We wonder why Greensburg isn't among them?

Local hotels are all but sold out, but there is nothing special going on to keep visitors entertained and in town while they are here.

One can't help but wonder if we didn't miss the boat somewhere along the line.

The Decatur County Visitors & Recreation Commission, a local tax-supported entity, should have taken the lead in making sure Greensburg and Decatur County were ready to roll out the red carpet for our many guests; that is, after all, one of the organization's primary objectives.

We hope the DCVRC doesn't come up short on 4th down when this type of opportunity presents itself in the future.
