North Decatur’s fifth and sixth grade boys basketball teams have been busy on the hardwood.
The fifth-grade Chargers knocked off Milan 34-31.
North was led by Brock Ricke with 23 points. David Bokelman chipped in with four points. Greg Krieger added three points. Andrew Hocker had two points. Clay Bedel and Brett Westerfeld both hit one free throw to round out the scoring for the Chargers.
At the Hauser tourney, the young Chargers were edged by the host Jets 38-37.
Ricke and Austin Westerfeld were both in double figures for North with 15 and 10 points respectively. Josh Weintraut added eight points. Bedel and Bokelman both had two points.
The sixth-grade Chargers rolled to a big 42-14 victory over Milan.
John Hammersmith led North with 11 points. Dylan Koors tallied eight points. Kevin Geis and Jason Kirchhoff both had seven points. Mitch Knecht finished with six points. Brandon Hocker had two points and Roger Volk hit one free throw to round out the scoring.
At Hauser, the Chargers topped the Jets 44-11.
Two Chargers scored in double figures—Hammersmith 13 and Knecht 10. Volk was next with seven points. Kirchhoff added six points. Zak Meyer, Koors, Sean Lecher and Dakota Schmid all scored two points.
The Chargers lost the title game to Morristown by the final of 35-32.
Hammersmith led the way with 22 points and Kirchhoff finished with 10.
North also knocked off South Dearborn 39-32 with Hammersmith finishing with 26, followed by Kirchhoff seven, Schmid four and Koors two.
Lawrenceburg defeated North by three points, 33-30. Hammersmith had 18 points. Kirchhoff chipped in with six points. Koors had four points and Meyer added two points.
